Lineserve Expands Cloud Infrastructure Presence Across East Africa
Lineserve announces the opening of new data centers in Tanzania and Uganda, strengthening our commitment to providing world-class cloud infrastructure across East Africa.

NAIROBI, Kenya – December 20, 2024 – Lineserve, East Africa's leading cloud infrastructure provider, today announced a significant expansion of its regional presence with the opening of new state-of-the-art data centers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Kampala, Uganda. This strategic expansion represents a $15 million investment in regional infrastructure and reinforces Lineserve's commitment to bringing world-class cloud services closer to businesses across East Africa.
Strategic Regional Expansion
The new facilities will serve as critical infrastructure hubs, providing low-latency cloud services to businesses in Tanzania, Uganda, and surrounding regions. Each data center features redundant power systems, advanced cooling technology, and multiple fiber connectivity options to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
"This expansion marks a pivotal moment in our mission to democratize access to enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure across East Africa," said Stephen Ndegwa, CEO of Lineserve. "By establishing local presence in Tanzania and Uganda, we're not just reducing latency – we're creating opportunities for local businesses to compete on a global scale with reliable, scalable infrastructure."

The new data centers will offer the full suite of Lineserve services, including:
- Cloud Computing: Virtual machines, containers, and serverless computing platforms
- Data Storage: Object storage, block storage, and backup solutions
- Networking: Virtual private clouds, load balancers, and CDN services
- Security: DDoS protection, SSL certificates, and compliance tools
- Database Services: Managed MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases
Local Economic Impact
The expansion is expected to create over 150 direct and indirect jobs across both locations, including positions in data center operations, customer support, and technical services. Lineserve has also committed to partnering with local educational institutions to provide cloud computing training and certification programs.
"We're not just building data centers; we're building ecosystems," explained Sarah Ochieng, VP of Regional Operations. "Our investment includes comprehensive training programs for local talent and partnerships with universities to ensure we're contributing to the long-term development of the region's tech capabilities."
Sustainability and Innovation
Both new facilities are designed with sustainability at their core, featuring:
- 100% renewable energy sourcing through local solar and wind partnerships
- Advanced cooling systems that reduce energy consumption by up to 40%
- Rainwater harvesting systems for non-critical operations
- LEED Gold certification standards for environmental performance
Customer Response and Market Impact
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from existing customers and regional businesses. Several major enterprises have already committed to migrating their operations to the new facilities, citing improved performance and data sovereignty benefits.
"Having Lineserve's infrastructure in Tanzania means we can serve our customers with significantly improved response times while ensuring our data remains within our borders," said Dr. Amina Rashid, CTO of TechSolutions Tanzania, one of the first customers to commit to the new facility.
